Current licensees

How are pre 1 July 2008 liquor
licences affected?

Liquor licences granted before 1 July 2008 continue under the new laws – although the type of liquor licence has changed for many businesses.

Some pre 1 July 2008 licence conditions and arrangements continue to apply, while licence conditions and trading hours have also changed for some licences.

Further information is available on the Pre 1 July 2008 factsheet.

Signage

The number of notices or signs required to be displayed inside licensed premises has been reduced to minimise clutter and to ensure underage drinking messages are not diluted.

Information on the new signs that must be displayed is available in our 'What liquor signs do I need?' fact sheet.

Pre 1 July 2008 licensees have until June 30 2009 for the new signs to be in place, provided signage that complied with the former Liquor Act continues to be displayed.

Changing the licence name or transferring a liquor licence?

Find information about how to change the name of licensed premises or transfer a liquor licence.

Changing the name of licensed premises

For a licensee requesting approval to change the existing name of a liquor licence, fill in the Change licence name application form.

For example, you need to apply if you want to change the name from the ‘Australian hotel’ to the ‘ABC Hotel’.

A fee of $50 applies.

Transferring a liquor licence to another person or corporation

Fill in this Transfer of liquor licence form if you are a person or corporation applying to transfer a liquor licence. If the application is granted, the transferee will become the licensee.

For example, a transfer application is required if you are taking over an existing liquor licence.

If the transfer is urgent, you can request provisional approval which will usually be processed within three business days. If provisional approval is given, the approval is subject to confirmation.

Do not forget to complete all applicable questions. If information is missing, this can delay a decision on the application.
