Why is the licensees’ course necessary?

Under the Liquor Act 2007, the Casino, Liquor & Gaming Control Authority can require licence applicants to undertake training.

The aim of the training is to provide potential liquor licence holders with an understanding of their trading entitlements, the scope of the New South Wales liquor laws, and the disciplinary provisions for non compliance.

It also reinforces best practice measures that licensed venues can adopt in order to reduce the level of liquor and gaming related harm, both on and off the licensed premises.

Who needs to complete the course?

Applicants for a hotel licence or an on-premises licence that relates to a restaurant or a public entertainment venue (not a cinema or theatre).

Who conducts the courses?

A list of training providers offering hotel and on-premises (restaurant or public entertainment venue) licensees' courses is available.

All licensees' courses contain an approved Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) module, as well as a liquor law module.

In addition, the Hotel Licensees' course contains the approved Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) course.

New liquor laws and licensees’ courses

A review of the licensee training will be undertaken by the Casino, Liquor & Gaming Control Authority.

The caterers and motel licensees’ courses are no longer required to be completed by prospective applicants of the licences.
